White Sea – Baltic Canal + Villages of the White Sea + White Whale Watching

Day 1:

08:00 Arrival at Belomorsk. Today you will get acquainted with the history and culture of Karelian settlers of the White Sea, visit local villages and see local crafts.

On our way to the guesthouse we will stop near the last lock of the famous White Sea – Baltic Canal, which was an ambitious project of Stalin and the first project of the Soviet Union constructed using forced labour. Afterwards you will visit Virma Village, which is a cozy ancient settlement on the shore of the White Sea. The gem of the village is a wooden church built in the 17th century and dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul.

Accommodation in the comfortable guesthouse on the shore of the White Sea (All rooms are with WC and shower). Substantial lunch with dishes of local cuisine.

After a short rest we go on a trip to Kolezhma Village where you willsee how local wooden boats are constructed. Boats of the White Sea are famous for their durability and unique characteristics in navigation. Even today craftsmen of Kolezhma Village construct boats not only for residents of the White Sea shore but also for fishermen from Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Return to the guesthouse. Dinner. Time to rest and enjoy relaxing atmosphere and tranquility of the place.

Day 2:

Breakfast. This day is devoted to an amazing adventure of white whale watching. The White Sea is the best place for watching these gentle creatures in their natural environment. The best time is from the middle of June till the middle of August when white whales visit coastal waters of the White Sea. You will go by boat to the favourite places of white whales (beluga whales) where they prefer spending the summer period. Picnic lunch. Attention! The time of departure depends on the tidal schedule.

Upon arrival substantial dinner. Sauna is available for additional fee.

Day 3:

Breakfast. Today s highlight is a boat trip to the islands of the White Sea where you will get acquainted with the fauna of the White Sea. Today it is time to enjoy the unique nature of the White Sea, its picturesque landscapes and its peculiar nature. You will visit the nearby islands and see nesting places of local gulls and ducks and hall-out sites of White Sea seals. Picnic lunch. Attention! The time of departure depends on the tidal schedule.

In the evening hot dinner will be waiting for you. Sauna is available for additional fee.

Day 4:

Breakfast. Free time to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. Farewell lunch.

Afterwards transfer to Belomorsk (80 km). On your way back you will get acquainted with the Stone Age times on the shores of the White Sea. You will see ancient images carved on the rocks (petroglyphs) which display the life of local population of those times.

Dinner in Belomosrk. Transfer to the railway station.
